Jan Mortier
Founder, Civitatis International
Jan Mortier founded Civitatis International along with a group of international lawyers and legal researchers at a Council of Europe sponsored conference in 2002 on the European System of Human Rights.
Jan later went on to to serve as rapporteur for the Commission on Globalist ion - State of the World Forum’s final conference at the European Parliament.
Jan also served as a freelance researcher for Air Marshal the Lord Garden KCB on the UK Civil Contingencies Bill.
Jan served as the rapporteur for the World Political Forum, a discussion forum of Heads of State and leaders of institutions that was founded by President Mikhail S. Gorbachev in the Italian Republic. Jan’s role at the forum was to write the reports and edit the speeches of leaders.
After working as a caseworker for an Member of Parliament, Jan campaigned as part of a winning team delivering landslide victories for local candidates. Jan was subsequently elected data officer then vice-chairman of the City of Plymouth Liberal Democrats party. He later led half the party executive to campaign against the Lib Dems in the run up to the 2010 General Election.
Jan later worked at the headquarters at the Club of Rome in Switzerland serving two consecutive Secretary Generals of the Club of Rome. Jan was also a full member of the Club of Rome EU Chapter, the 21st Century Trust and the Salzburg Global Seminar where he was a Fellow Awarded the Sir David Wills Scholarship.
Jan served as rapporteur for the NGO Process of the CoD in Santiago Chile. The NGO Process proposals document that he co-drafted was presented to the Third Ministerial Meeting of the Community of Democracies and was commended by US Secretary of State, Dr. Condoleezza Rice.
Jan was appointed an Associate of the Council for a Community of Democracies in Washington D.C. and secured UK Ministerial participation in the Community and an endorsement of the CoD from the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission.
Jan gave a speech at the Academic Council of the United Nations System in New York on a new doctrine of sovereign legitimacy based on human rights protections. He also gave a speech on the eve of the Iraq war justifying the war on human rights protection grounds to a group of young leaders who later set up the Canning Discussion Society at the University of Cambridge which later became the Henry Jackson Society.
He was presented to HM Queen Elizabeth II for interesting life achievements in 2007.
Jan chaired a meeting of government ministers and senators on public private partnership for investment in Azerbaijan for the Crans Montana Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Jan Mortier was also the only British speaker at the first India-Japan Global Partnership summit, in Tokyo Japan, where he gave a speech on a panel of MPs, Senators and CEOs in the presence of the Prime Minister of Japan about the future of industrial strategy.
He was a member of the United States Discussion Group at Chatham House for several years; and was the first ever undergraduate member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
